about our neighborhood.

Throughout my posts, you’ll hear me reference our neighborhoods and communities: Leslieville (where our first home is located), Pape Village (our second home), and now Greektown Danforth. For those of you who are not familiar with Toronto’s east end, here’s a little more info:

While we’re located just outside of the business “core” of downtown Toronto, we’re still considered to be “downtowner’s”.  Before COVID rocked our world, Christian and I took the subway to and from work every day (or ride our bikes!), walk to the end of our street to enjoy countless restaurants, coffee shops and shops (love).  Our ‘hood is full of young families and lots of fellow renovators.  We love it.

Over the past several years, Leslieville has evolved significantly, even starting a “the other Queen Street”  (#TOQS) campaign to get folks to realize that the east-end of Queen is more awesome that the west….a bit of a fun rivalry.  Since the purchase of our first home in 2009, it has been booming…now recognized as highly sought-after place to live in the city.

Pape Village, located a 15 min walk north of Danforth yet still considered part of “Greek Town”, is an interesting mix of older, retired couples, young families like us, and everything in between: we have single-family homes and high rise apartments right next to each other.

As much as we loved living in Leslieville and Pape Village, we always had our heart set on one area of Toronto: the Danforth.  In 2019, we were able to turn our dreams into a reality, when we began the painstaking process of designing and building our own custom home.  What do we love most about our new neighborhood?  The people.  The community here is amazing.  There is a real “vibe” when you walk along the Danforth, no matter the time of day.  Outdoor concerts, patios dining spilling out into the sidewalk, great bike lanes, and every shop and amenity right at your fingertips.  We might be biased, but we truly believe it’s one of the most ideal neighborhoods to call home!
